The vision and dream: Ampeleia is the story of three friends from the Trentino Elisabetta Foradori, Giovanni Podini, and Thomas Widman, who wanted to turn a life-style into a wine-style : an elegant and fine wine aspiring to the wearing of silk! Why not!

Three friends who love the traditional Mediterranean wines, their distinct aromas and typical grape varieties grown in the coastal areas, not only in Italy but also in Spain and France. The vision was followed by the search for a territory that could offer an extremely wide spread of pedoclimatic conditions as well as a pronounced Mediterranean imprint – terroirs where different grape varieties would find their ideal habitat.

Discovery, revaluation and interpretation of a territory: Ampeleia is located in the highlands of the Maremma, also known as Upper Maremma, but definitely the most authentic part, representative of its wild and rugged past. A new interpretation of the Tuscan Maremma expressed through the soils, the grapes and the different terroirs. The ties with history and tradition: The Mediterranean has witnessed many cultural and commercial exchanges between its peoples, wine and viticulture included.

The historic spread of the Grenache and Carignano grapes on the island of Sardinia testifies that in the past, these varieties, as well as the Alicante grape, were grown on the Tuscan coast.

The wines are: Kepos, un-oaked and derived from Mourvèdre, Carignano, Grenache, Alicante Bouschet and Marselan is definitely Mediterranean in feel, with warm wild fruits, spice, and herbs and soft taninns, but elegant and long.

The Ampeleia, made from Cabernet Franc and Sangiovese, complemented with the other 5 Mediterranean varieties is more harmoniously structured with a deeper set of black fruit flavours, fine acidity and length.

Kepos

Current Vintage:

Spice and warm berry fruit with elegant profile, an intriguing nervy plummy fruit finish, and smokey notes. This wine drinks very well and keeps developing in the glass. A real Mediterranean flavour.

Ampeleia

Current Vintage: 2004

The Cabernet Franc’s mineral and herb scented forest fruit notes reaaly stand out alongside wild bush country hints. This has real balance and elegance combining the ripe bery fruit with freshness and a long finish. Probably best cellared for a couple of years for full development.
