Overview
Location: Douro All red varieties are planted on schist, and all white on granitic sand. Cultivation has been organic since 2006. Whilst Vesuvio is only 8km away as the crow flies, there can be a difference of up to 8 degrees C daytime lower temperatures here, which is very much reflected in the elegance of the resulting wines. Production is around 27,000 bottles of white wines and 95,000 bottles of red. 80% of production is exported. A useful article can be found here from Wine Detective. Wine List
For older vintage information please contact us or consult the producer’s website Current Vintage: 2010 20% barrel fermented, this is a mealy, minerally serious wine from Siria/Roupeiro/Codega, Rabigato and Codega de Larinho. Contraste Tinto Current Vintage: 2009 10 months in used barrels. Sappy, structured black fruited and minerally. 92/100 from Wine Anorak (2008).
"Savoury leather, damson and berry fruit nose. Tight, fragrant palate with grippy tannins. It is focused, pure-fruited with an interesting savoury flavour mix. Elegant
rather than full-throttle which is very Douro in style and rather good." Decanter on the 2009, 4 stars and highlighted for good value. Current Vintage: 2009 Once the most widely planted black grape in the Douro, Bastardo(aka Trousseau) is now a rare thing. Very lightly pigmented skin gives a barely red wine, but of great character. Part trodden with some press wine from a cherry wood basket press.
Conceito Branco Current Vintage: 2009
The top white from the estate from pre-phylloxera vines. 80% barrel fermented. Rabigato gives backbone, Codega breadth. Amazing. |
