Established in 1990 by Manuel Oliveira, this set of vineyards and winery is at the heart of the Dão’s revival . A dynamic outfit it is run by the enthusiastic Luís Lourenço and his wife Luísa (Manuel’s daughter). The team is completed by cellar master João Santiago, vineyard manager Vanda, and winemaker Rui Reguinga.

40 Hectares of vines span 3 different locations around the village, including the legendary old Pessegueiro (peach tree). Elvations: 450 -550m asl.  Soils are sandy granite. Red varieties compriseTouriga Nacional, Alfrocheiro, Tinta Roriz, Jaen, and the white varieties Encruzado, Malvasia, Cercial and Bical.

Quinta do Correio

This the estate’s second label. The name is taken from one of the vineyards which folklore says belonged to the local Postman, so it translates humouristicallyt as the posty’s tipple!  

Branco

Current Vintage: 2011

Unoaked and made from Malvasia, Cercial and Encruzado, this is a fresh yet mineral in character with loads of flavour and great length.

Tinto

Current Vintage: 2010

The main grape for this punchy  and characterful red is Jaen (Mencia). It shows brambly fruit on the nose and has elegant energetic flavours.

Current Vintage: 2009

This is probably the finest Tinto so far. Fashioned from Touriga Nacional, Alfrocheiro and Tinta Roriz this red sets the benchmark for the estate’s red wine. Tank fermented and aged for 6-9 months in new ans seasoned barriques, it has a deep and black fruit intensity and combines silky texture with elegant flavours and freshness.

Reserva

Current Vintage: 2007 (shipped to order)

This is wine comes from the  old Pessegueiro vineyard, a typical field blend of Dão red grapes, aged in new barriques and allowed to mature sometime in bottle. 2007 produced a storming Reserva from Roques, with elegance, structure and granitic-rich fruit all tangled up beautifully.

Touriga Nacional

Current Vintage: 2010

This is a blend of the finest Tourriga Nacional wines made at the winery, aged in new barriques. It is an intense and broody red, with firm yet sweet tannins and complex flavours. Consistently rated as one of, if not the, benchmark Touriga from Portugal.

Encruzado

Current Vintage: 2011

This refined and elegant white is made from the Dão’s finest white grape, Encruzado. Part barrel fermented and part tank, it combines intensity of dried apricots, fresh hazelnuts and definite flavours with great balance. 

Quinta das Maias

Maias is a sister property across the Mondego valley and at higher altitude (700m). At the moment this is in conversion to organic status.  Jaen is the main red grape grown there.

This is the pure varietal red from the oldest vines and shows all the halmarks of  dried herbs and brambly berry fruit with refined intensity and freshness on the finish. Named as one of Julia Harding's Top 50 Portuguese Wines in 2012.Â
